Week 3 Maker Journal

So this week is the week of the club fair, and all I had left to do after last week to get it ready was to finish drilling the holes and add a way for the disc to attach to the arm.

Alas, it was not to be. I came in a bit after 3pm on Thursday to finish up, but the closet my project was in was locked! The club fair started at 5pm, and I learned the closet might not be opened until 6 or 7. I could have come in earlier, but it was still a bummer :(

I decided to do what I could and at least make the attachment system for the frisbee and the pole arm. I wanted something that would stay in place if the only forces involved were the weight of the frisbee + some wind and motion. Magnets were the thing I thought of first, but I ended up using something (arguably) more simple.

Dunno who the “Northeastern Valkyries” are but I picked this frisbee because it was a bit scratched up already

Velcro! It might wear out at some point, but I’m pretty sure it’ll be a lot easier to find replacement velcro than to find replacement magnets. Potentially less expensive too. I put some duct tape over the frisbee because the velcro I used came with some glue/adhesive and I didn’t know how strong it would be, so I wanted to make sure I could get it off of the frisbee if I needed too. I could have done that with the PVC pipe too, but it’s probably a lot sturdier to scrape if I end up needing to do that.
